Youth in Beekeeping Scholarships
The Youth in Beekeeping Scholarships are awarded each March to young people (under 18) who have submitted a letter of intent in the form of an essay due by March 1, 2020, addressing the following questions:
Scholarships recipients must attend the Knox County Beekeepers Association Beginner Beekeeping Class (class is free to high school students). Scholarships are not limited to Knox County residents.
Upon being awarded a Youth in Beekeeping Scholarship, recipients are asked to make a list of beekeeping items needed to get started. This list may include honey bees, hive parts, protective gear, a smoker, and other tools. Recipient are encouraged to research product costs and quality at different supply houses and compile a final list of items. The scholarship is for up to $300.00 in bees and/or beekeeping equipment.
Recipients may order from any bee supply house. Local suppliers: Simpson’s Bee Supply, and My Bee Supply LLC, have accounts for these transactions. If recipients order from other companies, they should save receipts and will be reimbursed by KCBA.

- Why do you want to keep honey bees?
- What are your goals for the first year?
- What questions would you like to discover the answers to as you learn about honey bees and beekeeping?
